The Complete Package?
Why is there such a rise of hypergamy in American and western culture?
It’s been said that today’s modern woman has set her sights high when it comes to what she considers marriage material. The recurring refrain heard throughout western culture is an established expectation so predominant in certain circles that it is inescapable information for most men. “Hypergamy” is the act or practice of dating or marrying someone of a higher social or economic status — colloquially known as “marrying up.” It’s what these women consider to be “the complete package.” A six-figure income, at least 6’ tall, at least 6” of manhood with six-pack abs. But this package is rarely said to also include wit, wisdom, emotional maturity, and other important intangibles. And therein lies the rub.

The average American male, in his 30s, only earns $58K per year, is no more than 5’8” or 5’9”, and, according to an article in Men’s Health Magazine, is only modestly endowed (5”-5.5”) when fully erect; if he has six-pack abs, it’s because he has made a conscious decision to regularly visit the gym. Yet the aforementioned women refuse to bring their standards into alignment with reality, or at least with what’s available. Instead, they complain about what men AREN’T doing, or don’t have/own, and don’t look like. They’re upset that chivalry is dead and that most men seldom approach or pursue potential love partners.
